Red Brangus
In 1999 we travelled to Texas USA and were honoured to meet Mr Mike Levi and have him show us his cattle. We were very fortunate to acquire semen from 3 top sires- Paleface Icons, Paleface 707 and Paleface 788
Paleface Ranch Icon (USA)(PFR 602’s Icon511/9 PED89R56875)
Paleface Ranch Icon is “The Legend” of Red Brangus in America and is quickly achieving this status in Australia as well. He is the sire of Paleface 707.Both of these bulls show extreme length, excellent carcass traits and very quiet temperament. Paleface 788 is of moderate frame with great thickness and eye appeal. His sire is PFR 613/2 and is not related to the Icon bulls. Unfortunately we were unable to find photos of PFR 707 and PFR788. Kori’s Sensation 872/7 (USA)
We purchased this semen in early 1997. He has put a strong and predictable base in our female lines and the buyers of his male progeny have reinforced this claim. He is approximately 38% Brahman content and does the job of an Angus bull in environments which are too harsh for straight Angus. Sensation himself is moderately framed, extremely deep ribbed, thick topped with great sire appeal. His semen has been sold to 7 countries throughout the world. In the USA 75% of Sensation steers have graded USDA Choice Yield Grade 2 which are the exact specifications of the Certified Angus Beef program Click here for Pedigree | ![]() |
EM Texas Sensation (USA)
In our opinion Texas Sensation was the best of the USA sires apart from the Paleface bulls. He left us with a great line of females which have bred well to all sires we have used with them. He was bred in a softer region in Texas and we have to be aware of that when it comes to breeding programs. We have recently acquired semen in a son of Texas Sensation. Click here for Pedigree
Mr UV Jackson 41D (USA)Jackson is tougher bred. His calves are all structurally correct. They are not as “pretty” as most as they are a little later maturing and can throw towards that golden colour if not used on a strong red cow. Click here for Pedigree
Doonside CalgaryCalgary is one of our first home bred Red Brangus bulls to make his mark on the Doonside herd. He was classified. His sire was the Canadian Red Angus Maybridge Red Coronet who was very popular in the Angus Breed at the time. Click here for Pedigree
Doonside Dargo | |
Dargo was a very attractive bull who produced many very good calves. His females are clean-coated easy doing and fertile and he has produced many bulls. We retained semen when he was sold to a Droughtmaster operation. Click here for Pedigree | ![]() |
Doonside Bozeman | |
Bozeman was our top bull calf in the 1992 season and was shown successfully as a Junior Bull. His females have produced many of the bulls for our production sales. (photo at 30 months) | ![]() |
Doonside Copper Head (30193F37)
Copperhead was Champion Brangus in Brisbane 1994. He has taken our cattle a long way adding softness and a strong red colour which although not at all important is very attractive when selling bulls. Copperhead is the bull we have had the tests done to sell semen – it is disappointing that these costs are so high. We feel the authorities should make it easier to sell semen for the good of the whole beef industry. He is by the good old red Couti-Outi bull, Gunga from a higher content cow.Click here for Pedigree | ![]() |
Doonside Gunga | |
We purchased Gunga from Couti Outi as a 2 yr old.He was invaluable to our breeding program.
Doonside Bacardi (P) 30192F32
Bacardi was a big rough late maturing bull. His progeny bred on well for us and his bull calves were very popular at Sales Click here for Pedigree
Doonside 49 (30194f49)
This was a big rough and tough bull who has had perhaps the greatest influence on our herd. We used him extensively for quite a few years and his progeny were hardy enough to well suit the softness and quality of the earlier USA bulls such as Sensation, Texas Sensation and Mr UV Jackson. He is by the good old red Couti-Outi bull, Gunga from a higher content cow. (photo at 20 months) Click here for Pedigree

This is one of the earlier Bacardi sires (born 1988) Click here for Pedigree | ![]() |
Doonside 159 RB15902 (AI)
This should be one of our stars of the future – he is by PFR 707 from a Bozeman cow. Click here for Pedigree
Doonside 170 (30195f170)
170 is a particularly good coloured bull to be by a Brahman bull. His dam was a very strong coloured cow. We have found that the Brahman/Brangus cross throws about 70% less brindle than the Brahman/Angus cross. The old Brahman bull Cherokee War Shield was very good for our herd. Click here for Pedigree

Doonside 178 | |
178 is by JDH Elefante Manso from a good old Red Brangus cow. His influence has lifted the Brahman content in our herd. It can sometimes be difficult to do this while still maintaining strong poll and acceptable colour. (Photo after first season) Click here for Pedigree | ![]() |
Doonside 201 – 01 RB 201-99
This was a really exceptional bull but he was not polled. He was by the much sought after Brahman bull in Rockley 620 from a Copperhead cow. We find it hard not to use him occasionally. | ![]() |
Doonside 361 (AI) (P) 30199361
Texas Sensation has left us with a great line of females and we find this bull is a good modifier. He is very correct and can be used with all female lines. Click here for Pedigree | ![]() |

Doonside RB539-01 | |
We retained semen in Doonside RB539-01 when he was sold to Liveringa Pastoral Company in 2002. Because the Red Brangus genetic pool is rather small, we used the black bull Challenger of Brinks (sire of Doonside Arlee) on some of the red cows. We were very impressed with this red bull calf and he has gone on to produce almost all red calves. He is the sire of Doonside Corella – a high quality 40% bull we had on our Site at Beef 2006. |

Doonside 547 (30100R547)
This sire is typical of the Copperhead /Doonside 49 cross – produces very attractive and valuable calves. Click here for Pedigree | ![]() |
Doonside 564 (AI) 30100A564

This is one of the Paleface Icon bulls from which we kept semen when he was sold to Liveringa Pastoral Co. Click here for Pedigree | ![]() |
Doonside 574 Tomato (P) (AI) 30101R574

Tomato is a big, long, dark red Angusy Sire Click here for Pedigree | ![]() |
Doonside Oliver | |
Oliver is a bull with a high Brahman content and perfect temperament. This photo was taken when he was a big calf. Our coastal country does not allow our working bulls to carry any extra condition at all. |
